MASON, Ohio — The BQ 900, an LED-powered slit lamp, has been introduced by Haag-Streit. It offers users improved anterior and posterior viewing with a long-lasting light source, the company announced in a press release.

The introduction follows the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's approval of the device earlier this year.

"The BQ 900 will improve patient comfort and, as a result, possibly patient flow because its LED light source produces much less of the thermal radiation that dries eyes," the release said. "It's safer too because LED bulbs emit less harmful infrared and ultraviolet radiation than other light sources."

In addition, the new LED light source improves illumination and viewing over tungsten bulbs.

"It doesn't yellow as the bulb ages, and the light quality isn't affected by power surges like tungsten bulbs are," the release said.
