Good short-term results reported for intracorneal ring segments, femtosecond laser in keratoconic eyes
CHICAGO Intracorneal ring segment implantation with femtosecond laser is safe and effective in the short term in keratoconic patients, a physician said here.

"The benefit of using the femtosecond laser is that we can customize the parameters," Juan Grandin, MD, said in a presentation at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery meeting.
Twenty-two eyes with different stages of keratoconus were evaluated at 1 month and 3 months after intracorneal ring segment implantation with the IntraLase femtosecond laser (Advanced Medical Optics). Researchers did not find statistically significant differences in cylinder, sphere, spherical equivalent or visual acuity.
Dr. Grandin reported that many of the patients were able to discontinue using hard contact lenses and some of them were able to overcome contact lens intolerance.
