The Fugo Blade has been approved by U.S. regulators for additional indications, according to the device’s maker, Medisurg Ltd. The newly approved indications include peripheral iridotomy creation for angle closure glaucoma and with anterior chamber or phakic IOLs, Medisurg said in a press release.

The Fugo blade is already marketed in the United States for capsulotomy and for transciliary filtration, also known as Singh filtration.

The new applications allow surgeons “to place the peripheral iridotomy in an exact location with an exact size” by touching the iris at the desired point of iridotomy with the blunt tip of the blade, according to Medisurg. The iridotomy is created by plasma ablation of the iris tissue.
