BASEL, Switzerland — CIBA Vision Ophthalmics is launching Focus Dailies Toric contact lenses in Switzerland for patients with astigmatism. Launches in other countries are expected in the “near future,” according to executives with CIBA Vision.

The new lens is constructed of the same material as spherical Focus Dailies: each lens features a thin and smooth edge and “was developed to satisfy the astigmatic patient's unmet need for daily disposables,” according to Andrea Saia, global head of marketing for CIBA Vision's global lens business unit.

The back-surface toric features double-thin zones and a tri-curve design, Ms. Saia added. With an 8.6-mm base curve, the 14.2-mm lens spherical powers range from -0.5 D to -6 D in 0.25D steps, in axes of 180° and 90°. Initially, the lens is available in -.75 cylinder for low astigmatics, company officials said.
