VIENNA, Austria — Bausch + Lomb and Technolas Perfect Vision introduced the new Victus femtosecond laser platform here at the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons meeting. Bausch + Lomb also announced the launch of the enVista glistening-free, hydrophobic acrylic IOL.

"We're very excited not only about the opportunity to bring Technolas back in to our organization and the product portfolio that comes with that, but we're also excited about the Victus product," Robert E. Grant, CEO and president, Global Surgical Business, Bausch + Lomb, said in an interview with Ocular Surgery News. "It is the world's first combination femtosecond platform to address both refractive as well as cataract and therapeutic indications."

The platform is designed to enable better precision compared with manual cataract surgery techniques. It may allow surgeons to create a more precise, controllable and centered capsulotomy, generate less phaco energy during lens fragmentation, and improve IOL placement, according to a company press release.

Bausch + Lomb and Technolas are working with regulatory authorities around the world to secure marketing approvals for Victus, the release said.

"We're also launching a next-generation advanced hydrophobic acrylic IOL that has no glistenings," Mr. Grant said.

The enVista IOL has a combination of aspheric, aberration-free Advanced Optics technology and glistening-free material. Also, the 360° square-edge barrier design of the lens acts as an effective optic-haptic junction, which has been shown to minimize posterior capsular opacification, according to a separate press release.

"We are very excited about our enVista platform, and we are excited that this glistening-free, hydrophobic acrylic IOL can be inserted through a small incision," Mr. Grant said.

The enVista lens has already received CE mark approval in the European Union, with additional approvals pending worldwide, the release said.
