A femtosecond laser has a new feature that prepares corneal tunnels for implantation of intrastromal corneal ring segments, according to company literature.
The "Incision for ICR" option on the VisuMax femtosecond laser (Carl Zeiss Meditec) can create custom incisions at the precise position and depth required for the segment. Surgeons can create tunnels smaller than 360° for the first time, and unnecessary incisions can be avoided, the literature said.
In addition, surgeons can create graphics during parameter selection to visualize the planned cutting geometry in the cornea, which can be saved for later use.
The Incision for ICR option is not approved for distribution in the United States.
