PORT, Switzerland — The Femto LDV femtosecond laser Z models have been granted clearance by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Ziemer Ophthalmic Systems announced in a press release.

The Z2, Z4 and Z6 models are designed to allow for growth within a practice, according to the release. Each is made to allow for step-by-step, on-site upgrades as the technology changes.

The models can be used for various procedures, with the Z6 model being cleared for creating corneal incisions for LASIK, tunnels to implant intracorneal rings or pockets for corneal implants. It can also perform lamellar and penetrating keratoplasties or other treatments that require lamellar resection.

The Z4 offers fewer options, while the Z2 is designed for basic LASIK needs, according to the company's website.

All models are now available for sale in the United States, the release said.
