ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — Bausch + Lomb has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to begin marketing its Crystalens AO in quarter diopter steps in the United States, the company announced in a press release.

Quarter diopter steps will be available for Crystalens AO models AT50AO and AT52AO in the ranges of 18 D to 22 D, and the company expects to release more diopter steps by the end of the year, the release said.

"Quarter diopter steps for the Crystalens Five-0 and HD have been enthusiastically accepted by surgeons, so we have now added them to the AO model," Tom Frinzi, vice president of global commercial operations for Bausch + Lomb Surgical, said in the release. "We still remain the only presbyopic channel lenses available in the U.S. in quarter diopter steps and the only presbyopic lens with NTIOL status."

Bausch + Lomb has already begun shipping the Crystalens AO in these additional quarter diopter steps.
