FDA approves aspheric IOL from Rayner

HOVE, U.K. — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the C-flex aspheric 970C IOL from Rayner Intraocular Lenses Limited, the company announced in a press release.

The IOL is manufactured with hydrophilic acrylic material and has an enhanced square edge for reduced posterior capsular opacification. It also incorporates anti-vaulting haptic technology, which allows for improved fixation within the capsular bag, strong centration of the lens, and reduced twisting or buckling, according to Rayner's website.

The IOL will be available in 0.5 D increments from +18 D to +30 D.

Earlier this month, Rayner earned CE mark approval for its Sulcoflex multifocal toric IOL, according to the company website.

Rayner expects to release the device to the European market in the first quarter of 2012.
