KOLOA, Hawaii — As human beings move through life, they are too often distracted by the whims of their egos, causing them to ignore the true purpose and meaning we all have, according to a speaker here.

Wayne W. Dyer, PhD

Speaking during the keynote session of Hawaiian Eye 2010, sponsored by Pfizer Ophthalmics, Wayne W. Dyer, PhD, encouraged attendees to vanquish the forces of the ego that tell us we are defined by material property, our professions or by others' perceptions.

"You cannot find meaning through the ego," Dr. Dyer said.

Dr. Dyer, often called the "Father of Motivation," said that each individual has what is referred to in Eastern Philosophy as a dharma, or calling. When that dharma is trusted and listened to, the individual is inspired, and the events of life begin to line up positively.

"You get a feeling that it's not you making the decisions," Dr. Dyer said.

According to Dr. Dyer, this line of thinking was also expressed by Albert Einstein, who once said that he wished to think as God thinks. This means becoming aware that all life comes ultimately from something not physical, and that if we strive to become happy and fulfilled, we should seek to rise above all the unnecessary weight we put upon ourselves so that we can create a worldview for ourselves that shapes how the world responds to us and how the events of our lives take shape.

"We are spiritual beings having a human experience, not human beings having a spiritual experience," Dr. Dyer said.
