Eyeonics revenue up 51% in third quarter
ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — Third quarter sales for eyeonics increased 51%, to $5 million, from last year’s third quarter, according to the company. Eyeonics attributed the increase to sales of its accommodating IOL, the crystalens.
According to a press release from the company, as of Sept. 30, 450 ophthalmic surgeons are using the lens, an increase of 40% from May. The Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services revised its reimbursement policy during May to allow patients the option of choosing the crystalens and reimbursing physicians for a portion of the surgery.
During the third quarter, the company also doubled its manufacturing facility in Southern California, announced plans to triple its sales force and began exploring the potential for an initial public offering of common shares of stock.
Eyeonics also launched the crystalens SE during the quarter. The SE is a biconvex silicone plate lens with a 4.5 mm optic. The lens has a 360° square edge on the posterior side of the lens.
