SAN FRANCISCO — Pfizer Ophthalmics awarded EyeCare America an $800,000 grant to promote a public service program on glaucoma, the organization announced.

The 2-year grant will support EyeCare America's Glaucoma EyeCare Program, which aims to raise national awareness of glaucoma risk factors and provide free access to eye exams for eligible uninsured patients. Patients must be U.S. citizens or legal residents who are at increased risk for glaucoma. They also must not belong to an HMO or receive benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs, and cannot have had an eye exam within the past 12 months, according to the release.

EyeCare America is the public service arm of the Foundation of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
