Early treatment may improve the visual prognosis for children with chronic arthritis associated with uveitis, a new publication suggests.

Ross Petty, MD, PhD, and colleagues reviewed and analyzed the literature to provide a rheumatologist’s perspective on arthritis and uveitis in children. Their aim was determine appropriate therapy regimes for children with arthritis and ocular complications. They noted that uveitis is a complication in up to 30% of children with chronic arthritis, especially those with oligoarticular disease.

The review is published in the June issue of the American Journal of Ophthalmology.
