Double running suture restores visual function quicker

Breaking news

ROME — Using a double running suture technique can lead to faster restoration of visual function in eyes that have undergone penetrating keratoplasty, according to a study.

Researchers here randomized 68 consecutive eyes undergoing penetrating keratoplasty to receiving a single running suture (35 eyes) or a double running suture (33 eyes). All sutures were removed between 12 and 20 months after surgery.

Within the first month after PK, a statistically significant difference was noted, with a lower mean value of astigmatism in the double running suture group.

The study is published in Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology.
