CustomVue LASIK for hyperopic presbyopia shows high patient satisfaction

WASHINGTON — Patients treated for the correction of hyperopic presbyopia with the Visx CustomVue system are reporting good early outcomes, according to an investigator.

Colman R. Kraff, MD, presented initial trial results with the Visx custom ablation system for correction of hyperopic presbyopia here at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery meeting.

Dr. Kraff said the treatment involves a multifocal corneal ablation in which the central zone is steepened to enhance near vision and the peripheral zone is shaped for distance vision.

Currently, 20 eyes of 20 patients are enrolled in his trial, and eight eyes now have 3 months of follow-up.

Dr. Kraff said his initial results show “good distance and near vision correction with no loss of best-corrected visual acuity.”
