Crystalens implanted in more than 50,000 eyes

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — More than 50,000 accommodating IOLs from eyeonics have been implanted in the United States, and of those, about one-third are the company’s second generation lens, according to a press release.

Eyeonics said 17,000 implants have been performed using the crystalens SE, which was introduced in September 2005. The crystalens SE is a biconvex silicone plate lens with a 4.5 mm optic. The second-generation lens is comprised of Biosil, as is the original crystalens, but the SE has a 360° square edge on the posterior side of the lens, eyeonics officials noted.
