Crystalens 3-year data shows high level of vision maintained

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. – After 3 years, 92% of patients implanted with an accommodating IOL still report monocular near visual acuity of J3 or better, according to the lens maker.

At 1 year follow-up, 92% of 241 patients implanted with the eyeonics Crystalens achieved J3 or better near vision, Now in 192 patients that have reached the 3-year mark, that percentage remains the same, company officials told Ocular Surgery News.

Further, at 1 year, 90% of 124 patients achieved 20/25 or better bilateral uncorrected distance vision, and at 3 years, 90% of 50 patients have maintained that level of vision, according to eyeonics officials.

No patients showed a loss of accommodation, with uncorrected intermediate vision of J3 or better at 3-year follow-up.

The Crystalens, designed to provide a continuous range of vision from distance through intermediate to near, is approved in the United States for patients undergoing cataract surgery and presbyopia correction, a company press release noted.
