History
A 48-year-old, contact lens-intolerant radiologist was seen for LASIK correction in her right eye. Her left eye had been treated with Zyoptix (Bausch & Lomb).
Preoperative examination:
Uncorrected visual acuity (both eyes): 20/400
Manifest refraction (right eye): –325 –050 × 151
Visual acuity: 20/20
Procedure: Alcon CustomCornea
Postoperative refraction:
Uncorrected visual acuity: 20/20
Refraction: –0.25 sphere
Lower-order aberrations (sphere and cylinder): Defocus reduced by 90%. Astigmatism reduced by 70%.
Vertical and horizontal coma: Coma reduced by 70%.
Spherical aberration: Spherical aberration reduced by 20%.
Discussion
There was an excellent reduction in both vertical and horizontal coma with no laser-induced spherical aberration. There was no decrease in contrast sensitivity, both photopic and mesopic (CSV-1000, Vector Vision). The patient now has excellent vision in the dark, which helps her as a radiologist.
