Case series: Viral corneal infection may resolve after PRK

Corneal and conjunctival viral infection can develop following photorefractive keratectomy, but the condition may resolve without permanent visual damage, according to a case series reported by Brazilian clinicians.

E.S. Arcieri and colleagues at the Federal University of Uberlandia described three patients who underwent PRK and developed adenoviral keratoconjunctivitis between 2 and 3 months after surgery. Multiple pinpoint subepithelial infiltrates developed in all six eyes. There was no haze development, and final uncorrected visual acuity was 20/30 or better in all eyes.

The study is published in the October issue of Eye.
