JENA, Germany — Carl Zeiss Meditec intends to acquire Acri.Tec AG, and the companies recently signed a share purchase agreement, according to a press release from Carl Zeiss.

The enterprise value calculated for Acri.Tec totals about $32.76 million and has to be reduced by the net financial debt at the closing date to determine the final purchase price. Carl Zeiss will acquire all shares of Acri.Tec against cash settlement, the release said.

The acquisition is expected to close in October, after it is approved by German authorities and additional contractually agreed conditions are met, according to the release.

"This acquisition is an important step in the expansion of our product portfolio for ophthalmic surgery, especially in the area of innovative intraocular lenses," said Ulrich Krauss, president and CEO of Carl Zeiss, in the release.

"The acquisition ... shows that we are consistently developing our market position in ophthalmic surgery and continuing to make investments here. That will remain so in the future: Building on our wider foundations, we will significantly accelerate our innovation in this area," he said.
