JENA, Germany — Carl Zeiss Meditec has opened Indonesia's first ophthalmology training center at Cicendo Hospital in Bandung, the company announced in a press release.

Carl Zeiss is supporting the center with a $200,000 donation, which will be used for training staff and acquiring equipment. The company also donated several systems for diagnosis and treatment, including slit lamps, laser systems and a surgical microscope, according to the release.

The center, which is part of the Vision 2020 initiative, was opened by Michael Kaschke, MD, director of Carl Zeiss, along with Gullapalli N. Rao, MD, president of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness, and representatives of the Indonesian government.

The company also plans to support the establishment of a training center in each of five regions within the next 5 years, the release said.
