BARCELONA — Carl Zeiss Meditec unveiled new ophthalmic tools and applications at the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons meeting here. Company officials said the diagnostic and surgical offerings work together to improve productivity, workflow and clinical outcomes.

According to company literature, the offerings include the Zeiss Toric Solution, a combination of tools that allows ophthalmologists to implant and align toric lenses with increased safety through an integrated workflow. The Zeiss Ophthalmic Data Management Solutions is an integrated platform to store diagnostic and surgical patient data, thus providing a paperless workflow. The Zeiss Refractive Laser Solution is a combination of the MEL 8 excimer laser, CRS-Master custom treatment platform and VisuMax femtosecond laser, including the FLEx all-in-one procedure. Carl Zeiss plans to commercialize the FLEx procedure in April 2010.

Additionally, the company showed the Visante omni as a complete system for the first time at a European congress. It is the first system to combine OCT and Placido disk technologies, providing comprehensive anterior and posterior topography for improved patient selection and care, company officials said.
