JENA, Germany — Carl Zeiss Meditec generated Euro 141.8 million in consolidated revenue for the first quarter of its 2007-2008 fiscal year, a 4.4% increase from Euro 135.8 million for the first quarter of the previous year, the company announced in a press release.
Carl Zeiss Meditec's ophthalmic systems business unit generated Euro 63.8 million in consolidated revenue for the quarter, down 17.8% from Euro 77.6 million during the same period last year, the release said.
The company's surgical ophthalmology business unit, which includes growing returns from IOL sales, generated consolidated revenue of Euro 18.8 million, up 3.5% from Euro 12.3 million for the first quarter of 2006-2007.
The company attributed the increased IOL sales to the initial consolidation of Acri.Tec AG. The company's share in consolidated revenue increased from 9.1% in the first quarter of 2006-2007 to 13.3% in the first quarter of 2007-2008, according to the release.
The Americas region remained the company's strongest sales constituency, generating Euro 51.7 million compared with Euro 64.1 million for the same period last year. The decrease was attributed in part to the effects of exchange rates on the conversion of U.S. dollar sales. Consolidated revenue from the Americas region decreased from 47.1% in the first quarter of 2006-2007 to 36.5% in the first quarter of 2007-2008, the release said.
