Carl Zeiss Meditec reports 13.5% increase in quarterly revenue

JENA, Germany — Carl Zeiss Meditec reported revenue of €210.3 million in its first quarter, an increase of 13.5% from €185.2 million in the same quarter in the previous year, according to a company press release. Revenue in the surgical ophthalmology unit grew 23.3% in the quarter.
Earnings before interest and taxes were €28.3 million, up 17.9% over the €24 million earned in the same period last year, the release said.
"We once again increased our revenue in all strategic business units and all reporting regions," Ludwin Monz, PhD, MBA, president and CEO of Carl Zeiss, said in the release.
The microsurgery unit also reported a revenue increase of 23.3% compared to the same quarter in the previous year, according to the release. The ophthalmic systems unit reported growth of 2.8% for the quarter.
The Europe-Middle East-Africa unit had the largest quarterly growth, up 18.6%, while growth in the Americas unit was weakest, at 7.8%, according to the release.
