Carl Zeiss Meditec launches combination of new technologies

BERLIN — Carl Zeiss Meditec launched several new technologies and updated products as part of an overall more integrated approach to vision that the company refers to as solutions, officials from Zeiss said at a press briefing here.

The Zeiss Toric Solution includes the launch of the IOLMaster 500 with Z Calc, the AT LISA toric 909MV IOL and the OPMI Lumera 700 surgical microscope.

"In terms of what is new, we have the IOLMaster 500, and the major improvement is ease of use, and it's much faster," Ludwin Monz, PhD, Carl Zeiss Meditec president and CEO, said during the briefing at the World Ophthalmology Congress.

The IOLMaster with Z Calc gives more precise measurements, and Z Calc more accurately calculates the lens for the patient with an interface that is easier to learn and operate, he said. The AT LISA toric 909MV IOL is a multifocal toric IOL with UV-light filtering technology that still allows maximum blue light penetration. The lens can be implanted through a less than 2-mm wide incision. Zeiss also introduced a full line of ophthalmic viscosurgical devices.

"If I were to describe our overall strategy in three words, it is precision, simplicity and outcomes," Dr. Monz said.
