Carl Zeiss introduces upgraded devices, data management system

SAN FRANCISCO — A new web-based data management system that connects diagnostic, imaging and surgical equipment and provides tech support and service, consulting and training was introduced here.

"We have arrived in the information age of health care," said Ludwin Monz, PhD, a member of the Carl Zeiss Meditec Management Board at a company press conference held prior to the American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting. Dubbed FORUM, the eye care management system is CZM's move to "transform our company to become a solution provider," he said.

Dr. Monz also noted that FORUM is the only web-based data management and picture archive communication system (PACS) in eye care. FORUM can connect to all DICOM-compliant CZM instruments and third-party instruments that follow DICOM standards.

Products released that offer astigmatism correction solutions include the Z CALC Online Toric Calculator, AT LISA toric multifocal IOL that can be inserted through a 1.5 mm incision; and the Z Align intraoperative toric IOL alignment tool.

Other product releases from CZM include the Cirrus HD-OCT 400; the Cirrus HD-OCT 4000 with expanded function and higher resolution; the OPMI Lumera 700 ophthalmic microscope; the Visulas 532s VITE photocoagulation laser; and the CRS Master that has a new blended vision option.
