Repair of an orbital floor blowout fracture with a transconjunctival approach with sutureless closure can offer patients excellent functional and cosmetic results, according to a retrospective study.

Viet H. Ho, MD, and colleagues reviewed 26 cases of isolated floor fractures repaired using the transconjunctival sutureless technique with nonfixed orbital implants. Early postoperative complications were evaluated.

Follow-up on all patients was between 1 and 26 months. No eyelid malposition, infection or implant extrusion occurred, but one patients had early migration of the orbital implant that did not require further intervention, the authors reported.

The study is published in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
