Bill to expand vision research and health services introduced
CHICAGO — A bill to increase funding for vision research and to heighten awareness of vision loss prevention programs was recently introduced in Congress, according to a press release from Prevent Blindness America.
The Vision Preservation Act of 2005 was introduced in the House by members of the Congressional Vision Caucus, the press release said. Rep. Gene Green of Texas is the chairman of the caucus.
“For the first time, Congress has introduced a comprehensive piece of legislation addressing issues like increased vision research at National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and making vision loss prevention a priority at community health centers across the country,” said Daniel D. Garrett, senior vice president of Prevent Blindness America, which drafted a report that is the basis for the bill.
