Bausch & Lomb reports 14% increase in second quarter sales

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Second quarter net sales for Bausch & Lomb increased 14% over the second quarter 2006 to total $649.5 million, the company announced. Net sales for the first half of 2007 totaled $1.23 billion, a 10% increase compared with the same period of 2006, according to a company press release.

Net earnings totaled $15 million, or $0.27 per share, for the quarter and totaled $33.5 million, or $0.60 per share, for the first half of the year. For comparison, the company reported a net loss of $15.1 million for the second quarter of 2006 and a net loss of $3.3 million for the first half of 2006, according to the release.

Compared with the second quarter of 2006, contact lens sales increased 10% to $192.6 million, lens care product sales increased 12% to $116 million, pharmaceutical sales increased 25% to $202.9 million and cataract and vitreoretinal sales increased 9% to $105.8 million.

Refractive sales decreased 2% to $32.2 million, the release said.

For the first 6 months of 2007, contact lens sales increased 8% over the same period in 2006 to total $378.3 million, lens care sales increased 8% to $213.6 million, pharmaceutical sales increased 17% to $371.1 million and cataract and vitreoretinal sales increased 6% to $201 million.

Refractive surgery sales remained steady and totaled $64.4 million for the first 6 months of 2007.
