Bausch + Lomb releases silicone hydrogel contact lenses for keratoconus

Rochester, N.Y. — Silicone hydrogel contact lenses for patients with keratoconus and other irregular cornea conditions are now available in the United States from Bausch + Lomb as part of a global licensing agreement with UltraVision CLPL, according to a press release from Bausch + Lomb.
KeraSoft IC contact lenses employ a combination of patented technologies to offer improved vision and comfort in cases of corneal irregularities caused by disease, trauma, transplants and surgical complications, the release said.
Patients with irregular corneas have traditionally been limited to gas-permeable lenses, resulting in reduced wear time for some patients, according to the release.
"Once eye care professionals have the opportunity to learn more about KeraSoft IC lenses and participate in training to fit the lenses, we expect KeraSoft IC lenses to become an excellent option for helping patients with irregular corneas," David Bland, director of Global GP and Custom Soft Lens Business for Bausch + Lomb, said in the release.
To participate in training, eye care professionals should visit www.kerasofttraining.com. Orders may be placed by contacting Art Optical after completion of online training, and additional lab channel partners should be announced in coming months, according to the release.
