BOSTON — Bausch + Lomb announced here the launch of contact lenses with high-definition optics designed for astigmatic patients, according to a news release.

PureVision2 HD lenses offer a larger lens diameter for effective ballasting and improve centration to provide better visual quality, the release said.

"A significant challenge for astigmatic contact lens wearers is keeping the lens stable to ensure that their vision stays crisp and clear," Ian Cox, PhD, director of Bausch + Lomb's lens design group, said in the release. "Our unique design has been shown to provide excellent stability."

The lenses reduce halos and glare in low-light conditions and provide high levels of oxygen transmissibility, according to the release.

"Many astigmatic contact lens wearers report blurry, hazy and fluctuating vision. For people experiencing these symptoms, [this product] may be an option that will help," Chris Snyder, OD, MS, FAAO, Bausch + Lomb's director of North American professional relations, said.
