ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Bausch & Lomb announced that it has named Peter Valenti III as president of its North American vision care division. The appointment will become effective later this month.

Mr. Valenti has recently served as vice president and general manager of Covidien's U.S. surgical devices division, according to a press release from Bausch & Lomb.

Before joining Covidien, Mr. Valenti served for 12 years with Johnson & Johnson, holding numerous U.S. and international posts, including roles as vice president of global strategy and vice president of U.S. marketing, both in the company's vision care division. He has also held several brand management positions with Procter & Gamble.

Mr. Valenti earned an MBA from the Johnson School of Management at Cornell University and a bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut.

"Pete possesses deep leadership experience, as well as considerable eye health and general health care expertise," Stuart Heap, Bausch & Lomb corporate vice president and global president, vision care, said in the release. "His appointment further strengthens our existing team, which is focused on delivering innovation in the contact lens, lens care and vision accessories segments of the industry."
