Bausch & Lomb has suspended sales of its contact lens solution ReNu in Singapore after an increase in the number of cases of a rare eye infection, according to a Dow Jones news report.

The Singapore Health Ministry acknowledged that the move was a cautionary one and that investigations are ongoing into the cause of the contact lens-related fungal corneal infections.

The ministry has advised residents to stop using the solution for now, the report said.

Thirty-nine cases of fungal corneal infection had been detected in the past year in people who used contact lenses, according to Dow Jones. Of those 39 cases, 34 used ReNu contact lens solution.

According to the report, the lens solution was manufactured in North Carolina.
