B&L net earnings increase almost 30% in first quarter
ROCHESTER, N.Y. Bausch & Lomb reported first-quarter worldwide sales of $448 million, an increase of 8% over the comparable period a year ago. Net earnings increased to $16.5 million, a 29% increase from the previous year.
Contact lens revenues increased 11% from the first quarter 2002, lens care revenue increased 1%, and pharmaceutical revenues increased 16% from the previous year. Product revenues in the cataract and vitreoretinal surgery categories increased 9% while refractive surgery product revenues decreased 3%. The company noted lower capital equipment sales were offset by increased service revenues and higher sales outside of the United States for Zyoptix, the companys wavefront system.
