ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Bausch & Lomb has filed a lawsuit against Ocular Sciences, claiming patent infringement relating to its toric contact lenses, the company announced in a press release.

The suit claims that the OSI Biomedics toric soft contract lens and its private label equivalent infringe on patents related to Bausch & Lomb’s SofLens 66 Toric. According to the release, B&L had requested that Ocular Sciences provide proof its lenses did not infringe the patent in question. When Ocular Sciences failed to do so, Bausch & Lomb filed suit.

Ocular Sciences responded in its own press release, saying the company has been in discussion with Bausch & Lomb since January 2004 and maintains its lenses do not infringe Bausch & Lomb’s patent.
