ASRS bestows honors on Alexander J. Brucker and Neil and Susan Bressler
WAILEA, Hawaii — The Gertrude D. Pyron Award was given here to the husband and wife team of Neil M. Bressler, MD, and Susan B. Bressler, MD, by the American Society of Retina Specialists. Also honored was Alexander J. Brucker, MD, who earned the ASRS Founders Award.

The Pyron Award recognizes "outstanding vision scientists whose work contributes to knowledge about vitreoretinal disease." Part of the award is a $15,000 research grant.
The ASRS gives its Founders Award to "individuals who have made major contributions to the advancement of vitreoretinal surgery, treatment, research, surgical instrumentation and patient care."
Dr. Neil Bressler is chief of the retina division at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Susan Bressler is the Julia G. Levy, PhD, Professor of Ophthalmology at Wilmer Eye Institute. They share research interests in clinical trials of retinal diseases such as age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.
Dr. Brucker founded the journal Retina in 1980 and has been involved in clinical and basic science research for 30 years.
Awards were presented by Julia A. Haller, MD, ASRS president.
