ASCRS Foundation launches relief fund for earthquake, tsunami victims in Japan

FAIRFAX, Va. The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Foundation has partnered with the Japanese Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery to create the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund, the organization announced in a press release.
The ASCRS Foundation will be collecting donations at the ASCRS meeting in San Diego to aid the victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The funds will be given to the Japanese society to distribute to health-related relief efforts, the release said.
"The earthquake and tsunami have wreaked extraordinary destruction, suffering and loss of life. As an expression of support for the Japanese people and our fellow ophthalmologists, we have launched this relief effort," Richard L. Lindstrom, MD, ASCRS Foundation chair and OSN Chief Medical Editor, said in the release.
Members, exhibitors and meeting service providers can make credit card or cash contributions at the Convention Center Sails Pavillion meeting registration area; at ASCRS booth No. 1023 in the Convention Center Exhibit Hall; at the ASOA Resource Center in the Marina Foyer of the Marriott Marina Hotel; or online at www.ASCRSFoundation.org.
