FAIRFAX, Va. — A newly formed committee will provide members of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery with a resource to stay abreast of “the latest advances in retinal treatment modalities as they relate to the anterior segment surgeon,” according to an ASCRS official.

ASCRS announced the formation of its Retina Clinical Committee in a press release.

“Recognizing that cataract/anterior segment surgeons are occasionally faced with retinal disease in the aging population, ASCRS hopes to provide education and heighten awareness of the issues for its members,” said Roger Steinert, president of ASCRS, in the press release.

The committee will be chaired by Lee M. Jampol, MD, and will include Neil M. Bressler, MD, Julia A. Haller, MD, Harry W. Flynn Jr., MD, and H. Richard McDonald, MD.

The retina committee, like other ASCRS clinical committees, will be responsible for developing parts of the annual ASCRS symposium, writing white papers and developing consensus on clinical matters.
