NEW ORLEANS — The Array multifocal IOL was granted the European CE Mark for treatment of aphakia following refractive lensectomy in presbyopic adult patients, Allergan Surgical officials announced during the American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting here.

This CE Mark, granted to Allergan on Tuesday, applies only to use of the IOL in Europe. It is an extension of previously approved indications for the Array. The Array was approved in Europe for correction of aphakia after cataract surgery in December 1995.

The new indication extends the ophthalmologist’s armamentarium for the treatment of presbyopic hyperopia, Allergan officials said.
