CHICAGO — A high-resolution optical coherence tomography imaging system for the anterior segment has received regulatory approval in the United States, according to the device’s manufacturer. The Visante OCT will debut at next week’s American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting in Chicago, Carl Zeiss Meditec said in a press release.

The Visante OCT can “accurately measure corneal thickness to help qualify patients for vision correction surgery” without the need for ocular anesthesia or water bath, according to the company. The Visante can image, measure and document both corneal flap thickness and residual stromal thickness immediately after refractive surgery, the press release said.

The Visante’s software allows precise evaluation, measurement and analysis of the anterior segment. Practical tools enable detailed planning and measurement of anterior segment structures, including anterior chamber depth, anterior chamber angles and the angle-to-angle distance. It also aids postop evaluation by allowing imaging and measurement of IOLs and implants in the eye, the release said.
