Anterior lens surface steeper toward periphery: cadaver eye study
A significant variation of the radius of curvature and degree of asphericity was found in a study of human cadaver lenses. Contrary to previous findings, the study authors noted that the anterior lens surface steepened toward the lens periphery.
Fabrice Manns and colleagues at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami measured the shape of the anterior and posterior surfaces of 13 human cadaver lenses with the PAR Corneal Topography System. The average donor age was 76.4 years.
On the anterior surface, the average apical radius of curvature and asphericity was 10.15 mm. The average posterior surface apical radius of curvature and asphericity was 6.25 mm.
The study is published in the January issue of Experimental Eye Research.
