FAIRFAX, Va. — Research grants totaling $50,000 per year to promote ophthalmic research will be awarded by the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Foundation, the society announced in a press release.

Foundation Chairman I. Howard Fine, MD, said the group is initiating the grant program to encourage research into all areas of eye disease and treatment, and the money will be split into 10 grants of $5,000 each annually. Grant proposals will be accepted from Jan. 1 to March 31 each year, he added, with the recipients announced in April.

“While we hope the program will be embraced by young ophthalmologists and those still in training, we are by no means excluding anyone from participating,” Dr. Fine said in the release.
