Angle shape not linked to severity of exfoliation syndrome
No apparent association was found between the characteristics of the anterior chamber angle and the severity of glaucoma in patients with exfoliation syndrome, according to a study.
Caroline J. Cobb and colleagues prospectively studied 78 patients with exfoliation syndrome to determine the gonioscopic features of their angles. Exams included gonioscopy and dilated funduscopy.
The degree of disc damage was not correlated with anterior chamber angle, level of iris insertion, degree of pigmentation nor the presence or absence of a Sampaolesi line.
The study is published in the August issue of British Journal of Ophthalmology.
