Analyst: Market for ophthalmic disease therapeutics will top $6 billion in 2009

DUBLIN, Ireland — The worldwide market for drugs targeting ophthalmic diseases should top $3.65 billion this year and should reach $6.4 billion by 2009, according to a market research report.

The ophthalmic drug market is expected to grow at a compound rate of 11.9% annually, according to Research & Markets. Over the next 5 years, glaucoma will continue to be the most treated indication, accounting for more than 50% of market revenues, according to a report from the international market research firm, based here.
