AMO to buy Quest Vision

SANTA ANA, Calif. — Advanced Medical Optics has exercised an option to buy Quest Vision Technologies, a company whose accommodative IOL technology AMO was already licensing.

According to a press release, the accommodative IOL, being developed for the treatment of presbyopia “provides accommodation through changing the shape of the optic with or without axial movement.”

Quest Vision’s technology is “distinct from others under development in the industry because it uses the concept of a shape-changing optic to provide accommodation, rather than an axial movement used in single- or dual-optic alternatives,” said Jim Mazzo, AMO’s president and chief executive officer.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
