AMO launches ultrasound add-on for WhiteStar phaco system
NEW ORLEANS Advanced Medical Optics launched a new component of its WhiteStar phacoemulsification system here at the American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting.
Ellips Transversal Ultrasound is an "optimized alternative" to torsional phaco, according to company literature.
The Ellips is the "first and only phaco technology with the ability to simultaneously blend longitudinal and transversal modes, both optimized with proven WhiteStar Technology," the literature said.
The blended longitudinal and transversal modes provide constant emulsification designed to reduce clogging of the phaco tip. It also affords efficient cutting that does not require changes in technique and allows the use of a straight or curved phaco tip, AMO said.
The new technology also reduces the risk of thermal damage, the literature said.
The WhiteStar system includes Fusion Fluidics, which AMO said enhances chamber stability and safety.
On the refractive front, AMO announced it is re-branding its integrated LASIK platform as "i-LASIK." This procedure combines flap creation using the IntraLase FS femtosecond laser and wavefront-guided ablation using the Advanced CustomVue platform.
The company introduced the i-LASIK concept at the meeting. AMO claims the procedure will drive demand by providing an integrated platform and advanced technology.
