ABBOTT PARK, Ill. — Abbott Medical Optics has introduced a toric one-piece IOL for cataract patients in Europe, according to a press release from the company.

The Tecnis toric IOL combines wavefront-designed aspheric and toric optic technologies to correct aphakia and pre-existing corneal astigmatism in adult patients with or without presbyopia. The lens should be inserted in the capsular bag of patients who have had a cataractous lens removed by extracapsular extraction, according to the release.

The hydrophobic acrylic lens increases distance vision without glasses and reduces spherical aberration almost entirely. The frosted optic edge design also decreases any edge glare effects, the release said.
