STOCKHOLM, Sweden — Advanced Medical Optics announced the European introduction of two new IOLs and a new phacoemulsification platform here at the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons Meeting.

The Tecnis one-piece IOL and the Tecnis multifocal acrylic IOL were launched for the first time anywhere. The WhiteStar Signature phacoemulsification system was launched for the first time in Europe, following its U.S. launch in April, according to a company press release.

"Each of the products launching at ESCRS include design innovations and advancements that will allow our customers to optimize their patient's vision and lifestyle experiences," James V. Mazzo, AMO chairman, president and CEO, said in the release.

The Tecnis one-piece IOL employs the same wavefront optic technology designed to reduce spherical aberrations as the Tecnis, while giving surgeons the easier insertion found in a one-piece model, according to company literature. The lens features three-point capsular bag fixation for better stability and a 360° barrier edge, which extends over the haptic-optic junction.

The Tecnis multifocal hydrophobic acrylic IOL is designed to correct spherical and chromatic aberrations and provide pupil independence, according to company materials. The design of the lens helps distribute the light entering the eye to provide improved low-light vision.

The WhiteStar Signature phacoemulsification system combines existing WhiteStar technology with the chamber stability of "Fusion" fluidics. According to the press release from AMO, the system features a streamlined user interface and easy-to-use accessories.

This system effectively reduces post-occlusion surge by a significant margin, according to the press release. The system features a peristaltic flow of up to 60 cc/min and maximum vacuum of 650 mm Hg, the release says.
