Abbot Medical Optics has launched the Ellips FX Transversal Ultrasound technology, a new add-on for its WhiteStar Signature phacoemulsification system, the company announced in a press release.

The new component, which builds on advances made by AMO's original Ellips ultrasound technology, offers higher frequency cutting, a larger zone for tissue removal, enhanced efficiency for hard and soft cataract removal, controlled power consumption for lens extraction, as well as novel tip movement for minimized clogging and improved stability of the chamber.

AMO has already begun shipping the Ellips FX component to surgeons in the United States.
