AMO introduces new Tecnis silicone model

LONDON — Advanced Medical Optics has introduced the Tecnis CL IOL, a modification of its Tecnis silicone IOL. The lens is now available in Europe and will begin shipping to the United States next month, the company announced here at the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons meeting.

U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services have granted new technology IOL status to Tecnis CL, according to a press release from AMO.

The changes incorporated in new Tecnis CL silicone lens include blue modified-C PMMA haptics for better visibility and easier implantation and a frosted OptiEdge design for reduced edge glare and reduced posterior capsular opacification.

The Tecnis CL model will permanently replace the Z9000 and Z9001 Tecnis Silicone models, according to the release.
